There are tons of information on how to start a blog and can confuse someone new. 

I used to be a blogging newbie too.  Before creating a blog, ask yourself why do you want to create a blog and join the blogging community.  Listed below some reasons why:


1.  Blogging is one of the most popular ways of communicating and spreading information and news to others.

2.  It’s a great way to express oneself and a fantastic way to share information with others.

3.  It can make you a better person and a better writer.

I also defined what is a Blog about.  blog is a chronological collection of personal written content in text, images, links to other blogs, web pages, and other media items related to its topic which is shared on the World Wide Web.  It takes the simplest form of a web log wherein records of events are arrange in a chronological order with the most recent entry appearing first or on top of prior entries and similar in format to a daily journal so that the blog post stays timely, fresh and meaningful to visitors.


How to Start a Blog?

There are six (6) steps you need to do in order to start a blog to own r own blog set up in less than 30 minutes.  


Herewith are the 6-Steps to Start a Blog:



1.  Choose your preferred blog platform

2.  Set up a blog on your own domain

3.  Choose a web host provider for your blog

4.  Design your blog

5.  Help the Search Engine Understand your site.

6.  Provide useful resources for blogging


Without further ado, let's start each individual step:

Step 1-Choose your preferred blog platform

To choose the best blog platform where you want to build you blog is the toughest job for a blogging newbie since there are several different blogging platforms out in the web with diversified offers.

As a beginner, you'll want a blog platform that's easy to set up, doesn't require you any coding skills to set it up and flexible with room for growth.

It is wise and helpful to have some knowledge on the kind of blog platform that would suit your need and purpose since starting with a wrong choice of blog platform can make some difficulty switching if you want to in the future.

Below is a list of best blog platforms for beginners which might interest you:

1.  WordPress.org is an open source software that is free to use, but require you to buy a domain name and look for a host provider for your site. It allows you to build your website or blog on your own.  It gives you full control over every aspect of your site;  can grow your blog and add extra features like forums, online store and membership option on it.  There are thousands of free and premium themes available to choose from that can enable you to create a beautiful site that will stand apart from the crowd.





2.  Wix.com is a hosted platform to build websites.  It offers an easy way to build your site using drag and drop tools that does not require you to have coding skills. You can also add a blog to your your website by adding the Wix Blog app.  The free account and free third part app are limited. Wix branding and ads will be showed on your site.  You can't change template if you wish to once you have chosen one.




3.  WordPress.com is a basic blog hosting service offered and created by WordPress.org. WordPress.com offers blog hosting service for free. You can purchase additional options like a custom domain, additional storage and other premium services.  No setup requirement, easy to use and manage.  However, there is some limited option to extend your site and cannot rum advertisement on your blog.  You do not own your blog and WordPress can suspend your account if they find you are violating their terms of service.  WordPress account is free but it will have WordPress.com ads and branding.You can upgrade to their Personal plan to remove WordPress.com logo buy getting a custom domain on your site.




4.  Blogger.com is a free blog hosting service acquired by Google in 2003.  It offers a quick and easy way to create a blog for non-tech-savvy users.  Blogging on Blogger.com is free, easy to use and manage.  It has added advantage of Google's robust secure platform and reliability.  However, it has limited basic blogging tools and can't add new features as your blog grows in popularity.  Google can suspend you blog at any time or even cancel the Blogger service altogether. (They have a history of abandoning projects without warning, such as Feedburner)



5.  Tumblr.com is a microblogging platform with social networking features including following other blogs, reblogging, built-in sharing tools and more. Using the microblogging platform of Tumblr is free and very easy to use.  It has an integrated social media component that makes it easy to quickly blog videos, GIFs, images and audio formats.  However, Tumblr comes with a limited set of features that can't extend your blog as it grows.  You'll find some difficulty backing up your Tumblr blog or importing it to other platforms. Tumblr is free to use.  You can use a custom domain which you will purchase separately for your Tumblr blog.  There are third party themes and apps available to purchase.



6.  Medium.com was launched in 2012 and has grown into a community of writers, bloggers, journalists and experts.  Like other blog platforms, Medium is an easy to use blogging platform that does not require you to have coding skills to setup with limited social networking features.  It allows you to reach existing online community of people of similar interests. The features however, are very limited in terms of design or building a brand.  Like other free blog platforms, Medium owns your audience.  Losing your blog with Medium means losing all your followers and you can't run your own ads to make money.



7.  Weebly.com is a hosted platform that allows you to build you website using easy-to use drag and drop website builder tools with does not require any technical skills.  It has dozens of ready-to-use themes that you can customized using their web-based interface. Use of Weebly can be free since Weebly's free plan allows you to try out their service before you buy anything. However, their built-in features are limited that you can't add new features if you want to as your blog grows and find some difficulty exporting your site from Weebly to another platform.

To set up a new blog on your own domain, you need to choose a domain name appropriate for your site.

Herewith are the tips in choosing a domain name:

-Descriptive: The domain name should provide a good idea what your site's about at a glance;

-Easy to remember: Keep the domain name short, simple and can be easily remembered;

-Adaptable: Choose a domain name that will work out if you decide to change the content of the site.


After choosing the appropriate name for your site, you should register the name with a domain registrant.

Step 3 - Choose a host provider for our blog

Step 5-Help Search Engine Understand your Site

Once you’re made your website, you probably want your site to be in the Search Engine Result Page (SERP) so that your potential visitors will immediately find your site.  If you are wondering how your site shows up in the Google Search engine or other search engine in the Internet, it is important to understand how these search engine crawls pages on the Internet, stores them in their index and serves them as search result using a variety of algorithms and ranking factors.

Make sure your site is indexed by Google or other search engine sites else visitor won’t be able to see your web in the search results.

Check whether your site is a performing site in the browser.  Type the domain name of your site in the search engine box.  If pages of your site show up in the search engine site, it means they’re indexed.  Else you need to submit your site for indexing in the search engine sites.

Step 6-Provide your readers useful resources.



Whether you are a beginner or you have been blogging for years, all made more than a few newbie mistakes.  Provide your readers useful resources.
